Calvin Analla Jr. is from
the Paguate Village of the Laguna Pueblo in New Mexico. He is
the brother of Yvonne Analla Lucas, and brother-in-law to the
renowned Hopi potter Steve Lucas. He has learned the pottery
making art and has created a style unique to his Laguna heritage.
Following the example of
his sister and brother in law, Calvin's work is hand coiled with
natural clay, hand painted, and then fired traditionally in a
sheep dung firing pit.
Calvin has been experimenting
with two different types of clay lately. He mixes Hopi clay with
Laguna clay giving his creations a unique marbled look.
Known for incomparable
fine-line work, these pieces feature both his trademark marbleized
clay, as well as the classic Laguna whitewash, along with impeccable
design detail.
His work can be found in
some of the finest galleries in the Southwest. We are pleased
to feature new work by this talented artist.
